Marie began her nursing career in 1989 working in a variety of roles including orthopaedics, district nursing and practice nursing across Shropshire, West Birmingham and the Black Country.

She currently holds the roles of General Practice Nurse Champion and Nurse Facilitator for Future Proof Health Training Hub, Nurse Ambassador and Digital Nurse Champion. Marie also mentors colleagues and students across a number of courses. Marie has an interest in respiratory nursing and works with Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS at the Pensnett Assessment Centre.

Paul Assinder, Chief Executive for Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS said, ‘Marie is a true inspiration and we are very fortunate to benefit from her dedication, skills and experience of over thirty years.’

Marie said, ‘It is a real honour to achieve this award and I am passionate about primary care and practice nursing. I enjoy the challenges that modern nursing brings and enjoy mentoring and supporting nurses in sometimes what can be a very isolating job.’

Be kind to yourself

Dudley Integrated Health and Care NHS is encouraging everyone to be kind to themselves to bolster their mental health.

The Covid-19 lockdown is causing anxiety for many people but mental health can be improved by making more meaningful time for yourself.

Everyone will have a different idea of what kindness means to them but it could be time to read a book, go for a walk or listen to music. Whatever it is, find time to do it and see your mental health improve.

If you are experiencing symptoms of stress, anxiety or low mood you can be kind to yourself by contacting the Dudley Talking Therapy Service. It includes the offer of free SilverCloud online therapy programmes which allows people to learn about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques, with telephone support from a qualified practitioner, in their own time and at their own pace.
